Marmot Earlylight 2P (2 Person Tent) Review

Marmot Earlylight 2P

Marmot Earlylight 2P

At just over $200 (USD), this two person packable tent turned out to be a great purchase!  The DAC Featherlite tent poles make this both strong and light enough to pack most anywhere, on or off the trail.  Minimum packed weight (without the fly) comes to about 4 pounds and 12 ounces.

Total internal floor space is about 30 sq ft, and the included fly creates two vestibules that add about 18 sq ft of external storage space.  This feature has come in handy on several occasions.  I personally use the vestibules to store gear, keep wood dry, and cook food out of the wind (with my camp stove of course).

Other features:

  • Bare Bones Setup Allows the Fly to be Used by Itself with Footprint to Make a Lightweight, Sturdy Shelter
  • Catenary Cut Floor Fully Waterproof Floor with Taped Seams Lifted Off the Ground
  • Jingle-Free Nylon Zipper Pulls Promote Undisturbed Sleep
  • Light-Reflective Points To Find Your Tent At Night
  • Snag-Free Zipper Flap Zip and Un-Zip Without Getting the Zipper Caught
  • Stake Tape™ Stake Tape
  • Window Weld™ Waterproof Window Construction Reduces Weight and Enhances Appearance
  • Gear Loft and Footprint Included
  • DAC FeatherLite Poles Provide Excellent Strength-to-Weight RatioMarmot Earlylight 2P
  • Two Doors / Two Vestibules
  • Fly Vent Adjustable flap for ventilation

This tent has come in handy for primitive camping as well as when I’m backpacking out-of-country.  I own a couple Marmot products, and this one has only boosted my faith in the company to create efficient gear, with some  extra features that are useful in any situation.  The Gear loft, interior storage pockets, and great ventilation are some examples of the extras that I wouldn’t expect, but definitely appreciate!

Here’s a Marmot video with a quick rundown of the features of the Earlylight 2P:

Great short article on this great piece of equipment. One more thing that I’d add – you better be pretty comfortable with the 2nd person in the tent, if you want to use it as a 2 person! It’s somewhat of a tight fit, but still a very reliable tent!

I don’t have the Earlylight, but I do have the Marmot Limelight 3 person, with a similar style. One note, this family of tents has great ventilation without the fly for summer use, but I wouldn’t go with this tent for any kind of winter use unless absolutely necessary. But all around Marmot makes an awesome and efficient equipment. The prices seem a little expensive, but the material used in their tents are high quality, so that’s one tradeoff.
